Make your own Adventure Time necklaces!

DSC_0711

This is a project I made a ways back for Asa and I wanted to share it with everyone since anyone can do this and should! It’s a fun and inexpensive craft and although it takes a little bit of time it’s worth it in the end :) You can choose any picture you want to make this project. I opted for Adventure Time because when I made these months and months ago the show didn’t quite have the merch available that it does now. After making these, I don’t see why anyone should go and pay money for something …

Mad for Plaid – shirt to dress upcycle!

DSC_0671

After I was preggers with Miss Ellison Riley I found the most adorable vintage maternity top in all the land. So smitten was I, that I bought it anyway despite no longer being with child. It reminded me of one I had seen on Etsy when pregnant. One that despite coveting, my rotund belly of Ellie would not have fit comfortably within. Months have now passed, the maternity shirt has been shuffled back and forth in the closet as we reach for other non maternity things. So yesterday I decided, or decided with finality, that since having another baby teeters between the eternal question of …

Vegan~Spiced Applesauce Oatmeal Muffins! Feed yo’ Face!

DSC_0576

The other day I made some really yummy vegan pumpkin muffins that I attempted rather unsuccessfully to make a brown sugar glaze for. When originally looking for the brown sugar recipe, I kept coming upon spiced apple cake recipes. That of course helped me decide on my next vegan muffin making endeavor. Spiced applesauce muffins! I wanted to bake something with the same delicious fall flavors of the pumpkin muffins but without the pumpkin. Yes folks, I realize it is spring but fall is the best season of them all so I choose to invoke it whenever possible. When looking for recipes to get …

Cake Batter Cream Cheese Frosting…for realsies.

cream cheese cake batter

I saw this frosting recipe a while ago on a blog called Confessions of a Cookbook Queen that I had learned about from reading Bakingdom. I should say first or repeat again that Bakingdom is awesome. I love Darla’s blog, it is nerdy and wonderful and so much fun to read. She is always so upbeat and it’s refreshing to read happy nerdy things! Kristan’s blog Confessions of a Cookbook Queen is also really fun. The post that this recipe is from, in particular, makes me laugh hysterically. I can remember when Asa also used to write and draw awkward things, it is probably one …

Vegan Oatmeal Breakfast Muffins for Plain Patrick

plain patrick

My husband is a picky eater. Not in the traditional sense where he won’t try new things because well…sometimes he will. The other day, in fact, he tried plain ol’ boring oatmeal with nothing else in it and guess what folks, he liked it. As he tasted his oatmeal my husband would say things like “It kind of doesn’t taste like anything”. When I questioned how he could then continue to eat it he said “Well, they don’t call me Plain Patrick for nothing”. …I’m sure many people in the world have a love of just plain old boring oatmeal (shudder) but I can’t call myself one of them. There’s two …

parental defective disorder

IMG_1584

The nature of children is to desensitize a parent to the world. Starting from pregnancy, your body experiences all sorts of uncomfortable and sometimes embarrassing issues that by the time you are 8 months pregnant you no longer care about. So maybe you couldn’t see your feet and didn’t realize your socks or maybe even your shoes don’t match. Who cares! Maybe you’ve spilled something on your pants, can’t see it, no problem! The trials of carrying around a giant beach ball in your belly prepare you for the next grossest thing to happen to you in life…birth. If you’re …

Vegan Chocolate Muffincakes with Orange Vanilla Glaze

IMG_1823

I love vegan baking. I find it a fun challenge to come up with an egg-less, butter-less, baked good that has both flavor and form. It’s definitely a hit or miss endeavor. What I don’t like about vegan baking is the occasional use of baking supplies that aren’t things I have on hand. I’m a huge fan of being able to whip something up unexpectedly. Although they may be common in some homes, egg replacers, flax seed, or even vinegar, aren’t things that I usually have on hand. So after looking at what seems like a million recipes and converting …

A Tail of Two Elvis’

thegang

I love Babble. I had seen on Babble, little mustache eggs as an egg making project and thought it was really adorable. So tonight when making eggs I figured I’d give it a go. All you need is dye, a white crayon, and electrical tape. French looking lil’ mustache egg man, very cute. Feeling inspired I decided I would add a lil’ Burt Reynolds, Comback Special Elvis, and Elvis My Aim Is True Costello to the mix. Super funsies!  Can’t wait to do this again next year!   Blog this! Happy Malted Milk Ball Day!

bleehhhhhhh grooosssssss

Well it’s almost that day, you know the one, Malted Milk Ball Day. People everywhere, much to my horror, will be joyously consuming malted milk balls like they are candy. They are not candy. Malted milk balls sound too much like moth balls which is what they taste like. Chocolate covered moth balls. Every year as a child the malted milk ball would make it in to my Easter basket and every year I would think it was something else. Ooohhh is this Chocolate? Perhaps a fancily speckled jelly bean? Easter egg gum? Glorious edible sugar of some kind???? Nope.   …

Make your own bunny busket, cup cozy, desk fancy-uper

IMG_1694

I have two projects I’m working on today. I decided while Ellie was still awake to start a super simple one that I could complete without incident. This…was not a good idea. There are three things that I do on a regular basis each week. These three things Ellie has come to despise utterly. I now find myself having to sneak them in during her naps or on occasion, her fascination with Steve of Blue’s Clues. 1. Vacuuming…I am convinced I caused this fear while Ellie was in utero since she has been terrified since birth of the vacuum. Amusingly …
